Overview

Roppongi, literally meaning ‘six trees’, is known for its mixture of businesses, high-end residences, and entertainment. Originally known for its nightlife scene during the 20th century, it has since morphed into the city of success, home to numerous international businesses and embassies. With a plethora of shops, malls, and restaurants, Roppongi is both an amazing place to spend the day and to live.

Food and Drinks

Roppongi has an abundance of food options ranging from high end gourmet such as Yoshizawa in Roppongi Hills, to casual izakaya at Uoshin Nogizaka. Alternatively, if you’re craving international cuisine, Knock offers Italian style fine dining while AS classics is known for its delicious organic handmade burgers. Great breakfast options are found at hotel restaurants at Grand Hyatt or Bricolage bread & co for a quick bite.

Things to do

Shopping

When it comes to shopping, you’ll find a mix of high end luxury in places such as Roppongi Hills and affordable options in places such as Don Quijote. Tokyo Midtown has plenty to offer; everything from luxury brands to casual brands such as Uniqlo and Muji. If you are hungry, there are plenty of options to choose from, including specialty stores such as Maison Kayser and Dean & Deluca, and a supermarket, Precce Premium, for your daily needs.

Arts and Culture

Home to many art museums, Roppongi has gradually developed into a cultural center in recent times. With the intention to enliven Roppongi with art, Mori Museum opened in 2003 on the top floor of Mori Tower in Roppongi Hills. This was followed by the National Art Center and Suntory Art Museum both opening in 2007. The three museums are located within walking distance from each other, forming the Roppongi Art Triangle.

Parks and Recreation

For all of our pet parents, Roppongi is one of the more pet-friendly areas in Tokyo, given its beautiful parks and numerous pet shops. Mohri Garden at Roppongi Hills and Hinokicho Park at Tokyo Midtown are both lovely for a casual stroll. For those with young children, Sakurazaka park, a robot themed park, is a fun alternative.

Transportation

Trains: Roppongi is connected through two major subway stations: Roppongi and Roppongi Itchome. The stations are serviced by the Hibiya, Oedo, and Namboku lines.

Busses: There are plenty of busses running through Roppongi for connections to areas such as Nishi Azabu, Hiroo, and Ebisu.

Taxis: Taxis are easy to hail in Roppongi, as there are a few major roadways that run through the neighborhood.
